Doug Adams Gallery / Badè Museum School Programs

Who came before us, and what did they think? Who are we now, and how do we communicate our thoughts through the arts? Who am I and what do I think about my world, my life, and my spirituality?

Share the power of reaching into the past, celebrating the present, and creating thoughtful paths into the future with your students as you visit the Doug Adams Gallery and Badè Museum.

Because of the unique juxtaposition in the gallery of contemporary art and archeological artifacts from biblical times, themes that are relevant to both collective and individual experience surface with each visit.

Teachers are welcome to use gallery resources as a way to enhance their students’ awareness of the world around them, while they explore aspects of society, faith, and personal expression. The art and objects in the gallery are drawn from a variety of religions and cultures, and serve to underscore the power of human experience both globally and across time.

Aligned with California State Content Standards in Language Arts, Social Studies, and Visual Arts, the Doug Adams Gallery school tour visit is designed to creatively encourage and develop skills in observation and critical thinking for students in grades 2–8.

Once a tour has been scheduled, you may discuss with a gallery educator what your students have been currently working on in class; tours and activities can be modified to further support your curriculum!

Soon after booking your tour, a packet of grade appropriate materials will be mailed to you and your students:
  • Confirmation of the date and time of your class visit
  • Introduction to the Doug Adams Gallery and Badè Museum
  • Museum literacy guidelines to help your students strengthen their skills in visiting a cultural institution
  • Grade specific curricular school tour plan based on the current exhibition themes
  • Optional grade level pre-visit activities to introduce your students to the themes and exercises in observation to prepare them for the gallery experience
  • Optional grade level post-visit activities to invite further contemplation of the themes from the gallery visit
  • Exhibition poster for your classroom
School tour visits include an inquiry-based tour of exhibited contemporary art and archaeological artifacts from biblical times. Learning is then extended through small group investigations and class presentations, and culminates in an engaging art activity that helps students explore the context and relevance of the exhibition themes.

Guidelines for enjoying your visit:
  • Please do not touch the art and artifacts on display.
  • The gallery remains open to the public during school tour visits. Help promote a positive experience for all by keeping voices low and respectful.
  • Be prepared to observe, think, and share what you experience during the visit.
  • Ask questions and listen to what others have to say!
  • Food and beverages are allowed outside of the building, weather permitting

School and youth programming at the Doug Adams Gallery and Badè Museum are made possible through a generous grant from the Atkinson Foundation.
