Picturing the Word: The Visuality of Text
Christopher Ocker- The San Francisco Theological Seminary (SFTS)
Aaron Brody- The Pacific School of Religion (PSR)
Deena Aranoff- The Center for Jewish Studies (CJS)
Join us for a new series of interfaith faculty debates and reflections centered on exhibition content. Each quarter, CARE will invite three faculty members from different GTU schools to come together in the Doug Adams Gallery and reflect on the current exhibition from their particular disciplinary and theological perspectives. These are not formal talks, but more unscripted dialogues or forums. Each professor will have 15 minutes, and we recommend that they visit the show in advance of the program to formulate their initial thoughts. The final 15 minutes will be open to dialogue between speakers and also invite contributions from the audience. GTU faculty, students and staff are invited to bring their own lunches and attend these one-hour noontime chats.
NOVEMBER 30, 1:00-1:30pm
CARE writing prize
Jeremy Arnold, PSR MA student and winner of the Fall 2010 CARE Writing Prize, will read his winning essay: "Take Heed You Who Have Eyes" in the Doug Adams Gallery on Tuesday, November 30, at 1:00pm, immediately following the IDEA LOUNGE. Both the IDEA LOUNGE and the Writing Prize this fall center on the current exhibition in the Doug Adams Gallery, "Picturing the Word: The Visuality of Text."
Jeremy Arnold is a Graduate Theological Union student, who currently pursues a Master of Arts degree in Art & Religion through the Pacific School of Religion. He comes to us from Fort Worth, Texas, where he spent the past four years at Texas Christian University studying Religion, History, Classical Studies, and Art History. Constantly fascinated by the inspiring intersection of religion and art, Jeremy would eventually like to teach religion through the arts to undergraduate students. When not at the Doug Adams Gallery or working on schoolwork, he can be found visiting local art museums or galleries, or be seen honing his photography skills while hiking in the great Californian wilderness.
