Celebrating 25 Years of CARE:
A Canvas for Creativity, Community and Reflection

2012 is a year to celebrate CARE! Our 25th anniversary plans include three special events, which we look forward to sharing with our students, faculty, boardmembers, long-time supporters and volunteers and new friends.

WINTER 2012: Please join us on February 25 for a provocative panel discussion at the de Young Museum, examining the life and work of Stephen De Staebler, noted sculptor and a late CARE board member emeritus. The de Young will present an exhibition of De Staebler’s work, and we are co-presenting the panel discussion, featuring John Handley, GTU doctoral student in Art and Religion, as moderator. Following the public program, CARE will host a private reception in the beautiful Piazzoni murals room at the museum, to thank our long time supporters and invite new friends to the CARE community.

SPRING/SUMMER 2012: We will continue the celebration with the opening of our signature Mining the Collection series in the Doug Adams Gallery. This year, we are pleased to feature artist-in-residence Catherine Richardson. Catherine grew up near the Moors and Dales of northern England and attended Art College in London. She settled years ago in California’s Sonoma County, and is thrilled to be investigating the archaeology collection of the Badè Museum, bringing new life to ancient artifacts through a resulting art installation in the gallery. Donors will enjoy a private tour of the collection and a preview of the exhibition.

FALL 2012: Finally, we will close our anniversary year in the fall with “Visual Exegesis,” an important exhibition of African-American spiritual art on loan from the Driskell Center at the University of Maryland. We will present a series of private talks for donors, inviting several scholars to reflect on this compelling body of work, including GTU’s own James Noel, and Robert Steele, collector and Director Emeritus of the Driskell Center.

"The role of the arts in church and other faith communities is vital to congregational health and vitality. I am grateful for the vision and ongoing commitment of CARE as it brings the arts and resources to local congregations. It is exciting to be part of an organization that makes the arts count in the every day life of people from a variety of faith backgrounds and experiences."
